Resumen
Recent urban excavation in Buenos Aires have produced 174 fragments of clay tobacco smoking pipe from five sites. Although mostly from 18th and 19th century contexts disturbed in re-levellings of the City in the early 19th century, the pipes are important as the first to be published from Argentina. The following note considers, firts, the pipe evidence in relation to the sites, and, secondly, the nature of the pipes themselves and their possible origins.
