The aim of this study is to explore the work of Ayax Barnes (1926-1996), one of the main illustrators for children in Argentina, from 1966 to 1976. We start from the assumption that there is a relationship between the graphic proposals in children's books and the representations of childhood. We postulate that, depending on how Barnes' illustrations intertwine with the texts in the books, it is possible to locate them in a passage from illustrated book to picture book and modern design. And in turn, this distribution of materials for children corresponds to different representations of childhood.\nWe consider the international context is embedded in the national context. On the other hand, we chose for this thesis to study Barnes' proposals from a multidisciplinary perspective of analysis that dialogues with semiotics, art, design and children's picture book studies. \nThis artist's work is the epitome of the way in which graphic proposals modified their place and function in books and, at the same time, how this prominence of graphic language was linked to changes in the representations of childhood in the period between dictatorships.

En este estudio analizamos la obra de Ayax Barnes (1926-1996), uno de los principales ilustradores para niños/as en Argentina, en el período 1966 a 1976. Partimos del supuesto de que existe una relación entre las propuestas gráficas en los libros infantiles y las representaciones de infancia. Postulamos que, según cómo se van articulando las ilustraciones de Barnes con los textos en los libros, es posible ubicarlos en un pasaje que va del libro ilustrado al libro-álbum y el diseño moderno. Y a su vez, esta distribución de materiales para niños/as se corresponde con distintas representaciones de infancia.\nConsideramos de qué modo el contexto internacional se inscribe en el ámbito nacional. Por otra parte, elegimos para esta tesis hacer un estudio de las propuestas de Barnes con una perspectiva de análisis multidisciplinaria que dialoga con la semiótica, el arte, el diseño y los estudios sobre los libros con ilustraciones para niños/as.\nEste artista constituye un ejemplo representativo de los modos en que las propuestas gráficas fueron modificando su lugar y función en los libros y a su vez, cómo este protagonismo del lenguaje gráfico se fue vinculando con los cambios en las representaciones de infancia en ese período entre dictaduras.
